The view from the Vimy Ridge memorial
I found walking upon the monument had the feeling one might have in entering a church. It is felt to be sacred space. This photo gives one some sense of its monumental size.
This is the Canadian Cemetery #2 located just off the Vimy Ridge battle site.
All the cemetaries throughout Northern France and in Belgium are emmaculate care for. So many of the headstone just indicate it was for a soldier, (no name inscribed). At least for those soldiers remains were found. For many not even remains were found of the battle fields in this area of France and Belgium. Mother Earth received them directly so in fact all the battlefields are in fact cemetaries.
